St Augustine's Church, Rugeley

St Augustine's Church, Station Road, Rugeley WS15 2HG. St Augustine’s church is registered as a Place of Welcome.


St Augustine's Church has been at the heart of the community of Rugeley for many centuries. It is named after St Augustine of Canterbury. Parts of the original church (now known as 'The Old Chancel') were built in the 12th century, with the old tower being added in the 14th century. The current building was consecrated in January 1823. Today it is the home of a growing congregation of local people. 

Services held at St Augustine's throughout the week

Wednesday and Thursday 8.00am Morning Prayer. Thursday 10.00am a Said Communion service.     Sunday 8.00am Said Communion, 10.30am a sung communion service with choir. There are Sunday school activities for school age children and a soft play area at the back of church for pre-school babies and toddlers.

St Michael's Church, Brereton

St Michael's Church, Main Road, Brereton WS15 1DU.

St Michael's Church was built in 1837 and later enlarged in 1878. Today it is a lively community of people which is growing in size. There is a small Sunday school for youngsters.

Services held at St Michael's throughout the week:

Wednesday 10.00am  a Said Communion service. Sunday 8.00 am - Holy Communion, 9.45am - Family Communion with Sunday School, 12.30 pm - Baptism (1st & 3rd Sundays),6.00 pm - Choral Evensong (2nd Sunday)

St Michael's has a hall with kitchen which is available for hire at very reasonable rates. The hall seats 50+ people and the kitchen is well equipped.

You can sponsor the floodlighting of St. Michael's Church to mark a special day, perhaps in memory of a dearly departed loved one or maybe to mark a special date, anniversary or birthday of someone living or passed away.
If you would like to arrange this, please contact Rev George Holding at the start of the month before the date that you would like to commemorate (i.e. for a date in July, please make contact by the 10th of June), so that it can be arranged.



Church of the Holy Spirit, Etching Hill

Mount Road, Etchinghill, Rugeley, Staffordshire, WS15 2TL

The Church of the Holy Spirit is the most modern building within the benefice. It is a warm and friendly space and home to a great congregation who give a warm welcome to all. 

Services held at the Church of the Holy Spirit throughout the week:

Tuesdays during school term 9.20 am - Etching Hill Morning Prayer. Etching Hill Primary School join us for morning worship on a regular basis.

Sunday 10.00am - Family Communion (with Sunday School during school term)
Sunday School - A special time for young people to learn about God together, with songs, stories and activities held in the hall at the same time as morning service. Parents are welcome to stay with their child if they wish. Sunday School join the rest of us in church for the last ten minutes of the service and during this time may choose to receive a blessing or communion & then share with everyone what they have been doing.

We have a good sized hall attached to the church which is available for hire.

St John the Baptist, Slitting Mill

Church Close, Slitting Mill, Rugeley, Staffordshire, WS15 2TQ

This small semi-detached church stands at the end of Church Close in the hamlet of Slitting Mill, one mile west of Rugeley. It was built nearly 200 years ago, initially as a school room where services were held. It was consecrated in 1872.

Services at St John's 

1st & 3rd Sundays 9.00am - Morning Prayer
2nd, 4th & 5th Sunday 9.00 am - Holy Communion

First Wednesday of each month: 10.30 am - Coffee Morning.

St John the Baptist, Armitage

You are guaranteed a warm welcome at St John the Baptist, Armitage. The parish of St John the Baptist joined the parish of Brereton and Rugeley in September 2017 to make the Benefice of Brereton, Rugeley and Armitage.

Services at St John the Baptist Church

Thursdays 9.15am Holy Communion                   Sundays Holy Communion services at 8.00am and 10.30am.  Evensong at 6pm (1st & 3rd Sundays).

The church tower has a peal of 6 bells that are regularly rung. These include three 18th century bells. There is bell-ringing practice every First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth Monday at 7:30 pm. Visitors are welcome at any time by arrangement.

Church of the Good Shepherd, The Pear Tree Estate

Hislop Road, Pear Tree Estate, Rugeley, WS15 1LS

This modern church was opened in 1959 at the heart of the Pear Tree Estate which was developed to provide homes for miners working at the newly opened Lea Hall Colliery. The church was designed as a place of worship for the community as well as a venue for social and educational activities.

Regular Sunday worship has been suspended for the time being due to a lack of volunteers and regular worshippers. We are committed to the continuation of church ministry on the Pear Tree Estate and are praying and actively considering options for the future. If you would like to be kept informed about possible developments please email us.
